...The question posed to Jesus is not just about paying taxes or money--its a question about who is your God? (Who gets your worship?)  Jesus knows this, the Pharisees knew this, and frankly even the Herodians (who have sold out to Ceasar) probably knew this...So yes, give to Caesar the things that are Caesars… give the powers of this world what is theres. But remember we do not bear Caesar’s image,  so we are not to give ourselves and our worship to the powers of this world. No, we bear the image of God and so we give ourselves— our worship, all that we are, all that we have— to God. Beloved, I hope and I pray that we do indeed give to “God the things that are Gods.”
